Taking the roundabout way

The uppity yuppies get to play bumper cars while they learn what the yield signs mean. The signage is pitiful. On rainy nights it will be dangerous. People's kids have to go through it every day on school buses.

I am beginning to wonder if this wasn't just about payback to the West Knox crowd that some people love to hate.

This was about aesthetics. The engineering department thinks it looks cool. It showed how progressive Craig Leuthold and Mike Hammond are.

In the end the majority of people wanted a traffic light. County Commission had little public debate and practically no public notice. Didn't care. This project was twice over budget and took twice as long to build.

Sounds like another great success for County Commission. Knox County Commission, working hard to ignore your needs and desires.

Clips of murdered teenager on YouTube

MURDERED teenager Faridon Alizada made videos of himself happy slapping people and fighting before posting them on the internet.

The 18-year-old, who was also known by the nickname Fighterrr, was a member of a gang of teenagers who call themselves IVS and posted videos of their exploits on YouTube.

However, police say they do not think his murder was gang-related.

The video clips on YouTube featuring the murdered youth are called Fighterrr and are numbered from one to 15.

Most of the clips feature him talking to camera, posturing and bragging to camera in the style of a gangster rapper.

In some clips he smokes and attempts to break wooden planks and bricks with his hands.

Amy Winehouse pwns the Grammys

Amy Winehouse scored five Grammys last night: Record of the Year, Best New Artist, Song of the Year for "Rehab," Best Vocal Album and Best Pop Vocal Performance. She accepted the award live via satellite from London. Her visa request was denied but then accepted at the last minute. Amy chose to perform closer to home. Us Magazine reports:

After accepting her award, an emotional Winehouse, who was joined on stage by her dad and mom, thanked her parents, record label and "incarcerated Blake" — her husband, who has been behind bars since last last year.
"I can't believe I've won 5 awards. It's a shame I couldn't be there to accept the awards but I'm so proud and happy that I had the opportunity to perform for the Grammys in my hometown of London with my family and friends around me," she said.

FROM THE EDITOR: Dartmouth's regular blogger is the ultimate homer

While the selectmen did approve ballot questions that voters will get to decide April 1, they decided not to give voters the chance to decide on spending nearly $60,000 to reopen the North Dartmouth library branch. As soon as Curt reported that news, a reader responded, "That's a crying shame."

And the conversation hasn't slowed much since. When Curt, who was born and raised in New Bedford and later moved with his family (he has a wife and two grown children) to Portsmouth, R.I., gets home in the evening, he immediately goes to his place on the Dartmouth page of our Web site and usually finds seven or eight comments that have been sent to him for posting on his blog.

The news business has come a long way since people like Curt Brown and I started, and the Internet has once again made newspapers the most immediate source of breaking news because they have the largest and by far the most skilled news staffs, people who know the communities we cover very well.

Coeur d'Alene Soldier Buried at Arlington National Cemetery

The battles between us a year ago where legendary. I musta bounced him a half dozen times. Then, I think, we decided we liked each other. And everything's been cool since. Ditto for Lesley Presley. Side Note. And others. At HBO (stiffling sob), you can always come home.

Rambo on steroids, Vending machines with pot

The Herbal Nutrition Center in Los Angeles has installed a 24-hour medical marijuana vending machine, according to an Associated Press story. But, before Californians get too excited, they have to have carry cards authorizing marijuana use for medical purposes in order to access the vending machine.

Old Kids: The New Kids On The Block may be old kids now, but apparently not too old to still kick it together. The ‘90s boy band New Kids On The Block are back with a new song they recorded this past November in Orlando. Fourteen years later, we wonder if their new song is as good as "You Got It (The Right Stuff") was in 1989.

More Missy, literally: The former Portsmouth resident and lady rapper/producer is going 3-D. Disney Studio's did it up with a music video that combines her two songs.
